Description
PROGRAM
Discover two unforgettable hiking experiences in Peneda-Gerês National Park, exploring cliffside paths and ancient trails in Pitões das Júnias, one of Portugal’s highest villages at 1,200 meters. Day one begins along the Waterfall & Historic Village Trail, where you’ll pause at a hidden waterfall cascading into a crystal pool and wander cobbled streets that tell tales of generations. Local guides share legends of shepherds and granite quarries as you breathe in the fresh mountain air.
On day two, embark on a challenging Ascent to Coto da Fonte Fria, covering 18 km through rocky terrain and lush pine forests. You’ll encounter Peneda-Gerês wildlife—watch for ibex grazing on steep slopes and golden eagles soaring overhead—while sweeping vistas reveal the rolling Minho valleys below. Pause for a picnic beside a bubbling mountain stream before summiting at 1,933 meters, where panoramic views reward your effort.
Between hikes, dive into Minho’s rich gastronomy: sample local green wine, artisan goat cheese, and freshly baked cornbread. Visit a community-run organic garden to see how locals cultivate heirloom vegetables. Our Montesa guides ensure every moment is safe and enriching, from sharing tips on rock navigation to revealing hidden flora. Whether you seek an immersive nature walk or a challenging mountain trek, these Peneda-Gerês hiking tours promise a blend of adventure, culture, and unforgettable landscapes.
